Today, we know that unprotected exposure to the sun's rays can increase the risk of skin cancer. Sunburns occurring before the age of 20 are of particular concern. Unlike a tan that fades away, the harmful effects of sun damage are cumulative. Children receive the majority of their lifetime sun exposure by age 18. Our hope is to set a trend toward looking great in a hat designed to help prevent sunburn for families all over the world! Children need more than sunscreenWatership Hats is committed to reducing our children's risk of developing skin cancer 10-20 years from now. Sunburning our skin and unprotected exposure to the sun's rays increases the risk of skin cancer, especially when we are young. Watership Hats is concerned that our children get an opportunity now to reduce the risk of skin problems as they grow older. We have joined efforts with the highly regarded Cancer Center of Santa Barbara to make hats available for kids to wear in summer camps in their Pacific coast community. In Santa Barbara, kids learn about wearing hats, sunscreen, and protective clothing while having fun on the beach and in summer camp. This program raises their awareness about sun safety, reducing the risk of sunburn. Fun in the sun is important for kids and families year-round. Make sun protection an everyday part of kids' gear for school recess, as well as summer holidays. We can't assure the prevention of skin cancer, but we do guarantee that if you wear a Watership hat on your next adventure you'll never want to take it off! |
